Story

Shavar once believed he was born in heaven. To him, their forest was the ever-white crown upon the tallest summit in the mountain range. In those halcyon days when his name was Fannar Vitrwesfv, he was honored to take up a sword and spear as a Wood-Warder. Independence and resourcefulness were his pride, and solitude was his sanctuary.(And, he had to admit, it was a relief to escape the harsh treatment and strict leadership from the village women.)

While Eorzeans dealt with the Calamity, the Veena of the village Vitr faced the encroachment of Garlean imperial forces occupying Dalmasca. They were growing their territory in all directions, even upward; Day by day they made their way up the mountain. They brought their steel, they made their camps in viera woods. The small encounters between imperials and viera quickly became too many to ignore. The imperials struck first.Shavar's heaven was toppled. His mountain was not the tallest at all; No, beyond their mists and trees were much taller mountains, with safer forests, with unbothered villages. He was alone, and that was no longer a strength. He no longer knew if the village was safe, he saw only distant pillars of black smoke, stark against the frosty mist. From the cover of trees he watched his kin fight and fall. Each bullet seemed to pierce his courage. What could he do?

To return to the village was to break the Green Word. To leave, just the same...

He found no answer; Resistance members found him. They guided him away from imperial camps, then onto the long road that many refugees traveled, beyond Dalmasca, through Bozja, along the south of Garlemald, heading to Eorzea.Willfully lifting himself from grief and shame, he stepped up as a warrior and protector again. He began training in the weapon of choice for rebels along the Garlean border, the gunblade. He protected his fellow refugees.Among the resistance force, there was a miqo'te Sharlayan sage--no longer a citizen, having spurned that life to use the nouliths for a better cause. The sage taught Shavar how to wield them. He bade Shavar use the nouliths to light the refugees' way, for he could no longer mentor him. He would return east, to his true calling on the resistance front, and Shavar would carry on without him.The journey took moons. When the beaten remains of their group arrived at the Eorzean border, Shavar finally let go of his forest name for good.

After roaming some of the various climes Eorzea has to offer (and immediately finding Ul'dah too hot for him), Shavar finds himself drawn to Gridania. There, he learns that the conjurers of the Black Shroud have their own sort of Green Word; Their Wood, too, has a voice. Intrigued, he passes many days among the healers there, comparing their art to the nouliths he holds. He makes frequent visits to Limsa Lominsa, where he discovered that he could work on his ongoing engineering project at Naldiq & Vymelli's. From there, he hopes to share knowledge with any skilled engineer he encounters; He is aiming for an apprenticeship with the famed Ironworks, having mostly overcome the language barrier. He travels from city to city, even back overseas, always fleeing from perceived dangers and seeking solace. When he reaches Kugane, he finds himself a job at a manufactory, along with an apprenticeship under the Garlean engineer Hyperia. Whenever he is in the East, he spends the days fruitfully studying Allagan and Garlean tech under her tutelage, while helping her run her shop.He seeks to hybridize the technologies of the gunblade and noulith for an all-purpose weapon, tool, and aetheric focus. In the back of his mind, he dreams of one day taking the finished product to the resistance front in the east. Although there can be no going back, a part of him still hopes for his Woods to call him home.Until then, he has plenty of time to learn how Eorzeans live, and explore this new world.

RelationshipsHyperia
Shavar's mentor in Garlean engineering. He first visited the shop because of the smell of food being cooked by Hyperia's husband. Instead, he ended up spending a long time discussing his work and Hyperia's, resulting in an internship. Shavar travels often, but her garage and lab in Kugane are a frequent stop.
Wren
During his time in Eorzea, Shavar chances upon a fellow Viera expatriate, but from the jungle tribes: Wren. Wren surprises Shavar with how similar their cultures are, despite their vastly different geographical origins. They find comfort in their mostly-shared viera language, and become fast friends.

Wren has problems channeling aether, and Shavar seeks to resolve that by building an arm brace that would assist the aetherflow. This project is ever in the back of his mind, and he can often be found mulling over the prototype sketches.
Galle
Shavar encountered this Golmoran Viera in the market in Ishgard one day. With sheer charisma she broke through his intimidation, and they established a working relationship. She pays handsomely for his maintenance work on her luxury guns.

Lore
I headcanon Shavar as a non-WoL Scion/adventurer. I'm not too strict about lore, I'm happy with having semi-AUs or having our characters just cameo in each other's worlds.
Shipping
I am open to platonic relationships, and maybe romantic relationships. Unlikely, but possibility to multiship.
